The rules
Last updated 22 September 2026
These terms are between you and Apps People Pty Ltd (“we”, “us”), who make The Passenger. By using the app you agree to them. Guests also agree to the guest release before each interview, and creators to the creator agreement before their first. Where those say something more specific, they apply.
What The Passenger is, and isn’t
The Passenger is for watching, giving and recording interviews in cars. It is not a transport service. Nobody pays or is paid for a ride, and the drive is a loop that ends where it started. Don’t use it to get somewhere, and don’t offer or ask for money, goods or favours for taking part.
Who can take part
- Anyone can watch, without an account.
- To be interviewed or to interview people, you must be 18 or over and sign in with your own mobile number.
- Creators must pass an ID check, hold a current driver licence for the car, and have the car registered and insured.
- One account per person. Keep your phone and sign-in codes to yourself.
Safety
- Meet in public. The guest chooses a public place. Never meet at, or give out, a home address.
- Creators: driving comes first. Obey the road rules. The phone must be securely mounted before you set off, and you must not handle it while driving. The dash is designed so you don’t need to.
- Guests are in charge of being filmed. A guest can stop filming for 90 seconds, up to three times, or end the interview at any point. If a guest wants to stop, end the interview and head back.
- You decide who you meet. We check creators’ IDs and give guests ways to look creators up, but we can’t promise how anyone will behave. Trust your judgement, and tell someone where you’ll be.
- In an emergency, call 000.
What’s not allowed
- Harassing, threatening or pressuring anyone, in the car, in messages or afterwards.
- Recording anyone who hasn’t agreed to it, or who is under 18.
- Showing or saying where someone lives, or other details that could put them at risk.
- Hate speech, sexual content, or anything illegal.
- Pretending to be someone else, or using someone else’s account or number.
- Interfering with the app, getting around its limits, or asking for sign-in codes by any means other than the app.
We may take down an interview, pause or close an account, or tell the police, when these terms are broken or someone may be at risk.
Interviews and who owns them
The creator records the interview and owns their recording. By submitting an interview to The Passenger, the creator gives us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to store it, put the two cameras together, and show it in the app and on The Passenger’s own channels, for as long as it’s published. The guest’s permissions are set out in the guest release they agree to before recording.
Every interview is looked at by a person before it goes on the app. We may decline or remove one at any time, and we always will if it shows where someone lives, involves someone under 18, puts someone at risk, or is harassment. Anyone can report an interview from the app.
Our responsibility
We work hard to keep The Passenger running and safe, but we provide it as it is and can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t responsible for what people do when they meet through the app, or for losses that come from using it. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Ending things
You can stop using The Passenger and delete your account in the app at any time. We may close accounts that break these terms. What happens to published interviews after an account closes is set out in the guest release and the creator agreement.
Changes
If we change these terms, we’ll update the date above and, for anything significant, tell you in the app before it takes effect.
The law
These terms are governed by the law of Western Australia, and the courts there can decide any dispute. Questions: hello@thepassenger.app.
